Specifically, it is most prevalent in the deserts of southern California and can be found at elevations below 1,500 meters (5,000 feet). However, it occasionally appears at much higher elevations.

    In the vast tapestry of the Boraginaceae family, the Lacy Phacelia stands out, a native whisper from the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. Yet, its roots have found purpose far beyond its homeland. Now, it's not just a wildflower but a guardian of agriculture, a beacon for bees, and a magnet for beneficial insects. Picture this: vineyards and crop fields adorned with its coiling flower clusters, each bloom unfurling in a choreographed sequence, ensuring a prolonged embrace with pollinators. Honey bees dance around it, and hoverflies, those unsung heroes that feast on aphids, are drawn to it. Rising to nearly 100 centimeters, this annual herb proudly displays its lacy leaves, intricately toothed and lobed.   • California poppy, Eschscholzia californica is native to grassy and open areas from sea level to 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) altitude in the western United States throughout California, extending to Oregon, southern Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and in Mexico in Sonora and northwest Baja California. E. californica is tough, fast growing, drought-tolerant, self-seeding, and easy to grow in gardens. It is best grown as an annual, in full sun, but it will tolerate part shade.   • Overseeding:
    1lb per 200 sq feet.
    5lbs per 1000 Sq feet.

    Can be installed via overseeding, where the seed mix is spread over the top of a pre-existing stand of turf, or as part of a new lawn renovation. An overseeding is best-suited for a healthy (relatively weed-free) lawn planted with either Kentucky bluegrass or fine fescue grass. The bee lawn flowers will struggle to establish alongside other grass species and aggressive weeds. If these conditions are not present in a lawn, a bee lawn can also be established by removing the old turf and seeding a bee lawn directly into the soil. The steps to establishing a bee lawn are very similar to those of establishing a traditional turfgrass lawn.

    A light and frequent watering schedule is recommended for the first 30 days. Once a bee lawn is fully established, additional irrigation is only needed during periods of drought.

    ESTABLISHMENT

    Primarily vegetation & limited flowering year 1 Matrix of grasses and flowers year 2 +They can be installed via overseeding, where the seed mix is spread over the top of a pre-existing stand of turf, or as part of a new lawn renovation. An overseeding is best-suited for a healthy (relatively weed-free) lawn planted with either Kentucky bluegrass or fine fescue grass. The bee lawn flowers will struggle to establish alongside other grass species and aggressive weeds. If these conditions are not present in a lawn, a bee lawn can also be established by removing the old turf and seeding a bee lawn directly into the soil. The steps to establishing a bee lawn are very similar to those of establishing a traditional turfgrass lawn. A light and frequent watering schedule is recommended for the first 30 days. Once a bee lawn is fully established, additional irrigation is only needed during periods of drought.

So you want to plant native wildflowers…

What are Native vs Invasive plants:

Native plants consist of endemic and indigenous species. In biogeography, a native species is indigenous to a given region or ecosystem if its presence in that region is the result of only natural processes, with no human intervention. When a species is indigenous, it's found in a particular location and surrounding areas and contributes to it’s ecosystem. An endemic species, however, is a native species found only in a particular area, large or small(from a continent to a square inch).

An "invasive species" is defined as a species that is Non-native (or alien) to the ecosystem under consideration; and, whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health. (Executive Order 13112).

My local garden store doesn’t have a native seed mix, can I buy online or at box stores?
Be sure to check that every plant in the mix you purchase is not on an invasive list for your area. Not everything sold as wildflowers is native to you. You can buy seeds at places like American Meadows but these are mixes that thrive in locations but aren’t necessarily native or non-invasive.
